Traditional Film Slides and Projected Digital Images

The traditional film and projected digital images will be managed as one program. Each entity will be judged separately, with separate records and separate year end awards. The Boise Camera Club rules and awards for the two entities will be the same. The BCC will continue to compete in the slide programs in 4Cs and PSA/ICSC. At this point the club is not participating in projected digital image competitions outside of the club.

For an overview on how photographs are critiqued click here Photographic Critiquing.

Number of Submissions

Members may submit a total of thirty-three (33) images for judging in each program (film and/or digital images) annually. The intent of the program is to allow a member to submit three (3) film slides and three (3) digital images for judging at each workshop. "Make-up" images will be permitted in both film and digital programs. The total number of images that may be submitted by a maker for judging at each workshop may not exceed six (6), a combination of both film and digital images. A "make-up" image in one of the two programs would reduce the total number of images that a member may submit in the other program on a given night and annually. (The June 2006 Projected Image Night will be devoted to calibrating digital images for projection.)

Year End Competition

The Boise Camera Club will have a award for Best of Year with a 1st and 2nd Place Runner-up for both film and digital images. There will also will also be an Assigned Category and a Creative Category competition for both film and digital images. A Best of Year award will be given in each of these categories.

An image must have been judged during the year to be eligible for the End of Year Competition. Assigned subjects are identified for each month. Assigned images must be judged in the month identified for that subject (there are no "make-ups" for Assigned images) and are part of the members allowed images for judging. The defiition for the Creative Category is "altered reality".

Members wishing to compete in the Best of Year Category may submit up to five (5) film and/or digital images for consideration. Members may also submit up to two (2) in both the Assigned and Creative categories for both film and/or digital images. An imagecane be submitted in only one category. The same image cannot be submitted in both film and digital images competition, even if it has been re-named.

Digital Image Submission:

1. The images must be in an electronic JPEG file format. The JPEG image file size should be a minimum of 100 KB but no larger than 350 KB. The maximum pixel size for the image must be 1024 pixels in the horizontal dimension and 768 pixels in the vertical dimension.

2. Please name your digital image files with your first and last initial dot name of image dot JPG (For example: RW.Old_Barn.JPG). This will make it easier for the projected image chair person to organize the images for display on Projected Image night.

3. Images must be saved in sRGB color space and not AdobeRGB or any other format. This will help insure colors will match what you see on your monitor (provided it is properly calibrated) and what is projected.

4. Attach the image(s) to an e-mail addressed to <project at boisecameraclub.org> (remove <> and spaces and change at to @). Please use the title of your image as the name/title of the attachment.

5. In the body of the e-mail please put your name.

6. Images must be received by 12:00 noon on the Monday before Projected Image night.

7. Image not conforming to the size and file restrictions or received after the cut-off time will not be judged.

The Boise Camera Club uses an Optoma Model EP 739 (1024x768) projector. Specifications can be found at Optoma's website.

Film Image Submission:

All film slides submitted for competition must be properly marked. The markings must be on the side from which the slide is to be viewed. The markings must include:

  • The title of the slide.
  • The maker's name.
  • "Boise Camera Club"
  • A corner spot. A properly placed "corner spot" must be in the upper right corner of the slide when the slide is placed in the projector tray.
