Boise Camera Club - Print Night

Print Night Workshops are held on the second Tuesday of each month. They are fun and educational. The Boise Camera Club encourages all members to participate in the Print Night Workshop. Critiques are offered by club experts to help both amateur and experienced photographers grow and improve. Listening to critiques on all levels of photography presents an accelerated learning curve. All Members who participate in print workshops must be familiar with the following rules in order for the workshops to run smoothly. If you have any questions please ask one of the more experienced members of the club for assistance.

Click here for a map to our meeting location.

Allowable prints per workshop: a maximum of three (3) current month prints and one (1) make-up can be submitted for judging on any given print night, for a maximum total of four (4). You can choose to participate in color or monochrome, large or small, but the total for the night cannot exceed this maximum. In addition, because the large color is the largest category, there will be no more than two (2) large color prints accepted per person.

"Make-up" print(s) can be brought to print workshops if you have been unable to bring three color and/or monochrome prints each month. Make-up entries shall be marked as "make-up" on the entry form and are not eligible as an Assigned Print. Your allotment of six (6) prints per month can be any combination of color, monochrome and make-up prints. It is suggested (but not required) that members who know they will not be present at future workshops leave prints with another member to enter on the month(s) you will not be present.

Print Division Rules

1. Color: (chemical or digital).

2. Monochrome by maker: (processed or printed by the photographer - chemical or digital

3. Assigned Print: An assigned subject (see table at right) is made for each month for the Assigned Print competition. Each member can enter one (1) print per month. It can be either a monochrome or a color print of the Assigned subject for that month. No make-ups are allowed.

4. Creative Altered Reality (CAR): Color or Monochrome prints that present a fictional or conceptual image, or photographic art.

Print Size Rules

1. Print exposed size can be no smaller than 5x7 inches and no larger than 16 x 20 inches. This means the amount of the image that is physically showing after mounting. That means if you start with a 5x7 inch print and mat it so 1/4" all the way around is covered it will not be allowed.

2. In color and monochrome print divisions you can compete in two sizes, small and large. The Assigned print will fall into those categories and may be either small or large. There is only one Creative Reality class and can be within any of the accepted size ranges.

3. "Small" (96 Square) is a print (including the mount or mat board) that is no larger than 96 square inches. Ninety-six square is typically an 8 x 12 inch picture. However, it can be \ any dimension between the minimum size and 96 square inches

4. "Large" is a print (including the mount or mat board) that is between 96 square inches to a maximum size of 16 x 20 inches.

Print Night Judging

Scoring or judging is done by a three-person judging panel. Each judge has a scoring range of five (5) levels. The resultant scores are totaled for each print, thus the total score will range from a low of fifteen (15) to a maximum of twenty-seven (27) points. Judges do not score their own or spouses images. The missing score will be the average of the two remaining judges, rounded to the next higher whole point. Each print will be critiqued after scoring and before going on to the next print.
